Apple lawsuit settlement comes after allegations of material defects in specific iPhone models that affected their audio functionality. The settlement covers customers who owned an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus between September 16, 2016, and January 3, 2023, and experienced audio issues that required out-of-pocket repairs. If you meet these criteria, you can file a claim for compensation.

Details of the Apple Lawsuit

The class action lawsuit centered around a “failure of the audio integrated circuit,” caused by defective audio chips. The plaintiffs accused Apple of “concealing a material defect that ultimately causes iPhone audio features to become unresponsive and fail in their essential purpose as smartphones.” While Apple has settled the lawsuit, the company has not admitted any wrongdoing.

How to File a Claim?

1. Verify Eligibility: Ensure you owned an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus during the specified period, complained about audio problems, and paid for repairs yourself.

2. Submit a Claim: Eligible users who paid for repairs can claim between $50 and $349. Those who complained about the defect but did not pay for repairs can receive a payment of $125. Claims must be submitted by June 3, 2024.

If you went to a third party for repairs, this might complicate your claim. Apple’s repair records will be used to verify the repairs. The deadline to submit a claim, object to the settlement, or exclude yourself from it is June 3, 2024. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 18, 2024.

If you are eligible and do not file a claim or exclude yourself from the settlement, you will not receive any payment and will be unable to bring another complaint against Apple over this issue. The lawsuit claimed: “As a result of Apple’s unfair, deceptive, and/or fraudulent business practices, owners of the iPhones, including Plaintiffs, have suffered ascertainable losses. The unfair and deceptive trade practices committed by Apple were conducted in a manner giving rise to substantial aggravating circumstances.”
